Solomon Shares His Wisdom Through The Proverbs

This weeks lesson is ALL about Solomon Sharing His Wisdom through the Proverbs.  We will take brief looks at SEVERAL Proverbs….I really would LOVE to spend about 12 weeks on the PROVERBS….but, since I am trying to FOCUS on writing lessons for the KIDDOS focusing on GOD’S AWESOME PLAN for MAN….we only spend 2 weeks on the Proverbs.  (HOWEVER, ONE OF THESE DAYS I WANT TO WRITE AND ENTIRE LESSON SERIES, FOR THE KIDDOS, JUST ON THE PROVERBS.)   The PROVERBS are FILLED with wonderful LIFE LESSONS.  If you have never studied the PROVERBS then may I suggest you do.  I LOVE the book of Proverbs. 

I have our Do You Know? Wall ready to go…By the end of class time I want the KIDDOS to be able to ANSWER ALL THESE Questions.

We will be singing this SONG this Sunday for sure…Since we are focusing on Solomon Sharing His Wisdom with Us through the Proverbs.

For our TAKE HOME activity we will be making a SCROLL.  I used one of my favorite Proverbs for this project.   I love that it teaches that KIDDOS need to TREASURE the COMMANDMENTS taught with in the Bible.

      

These scrolls are made from BROWN construction paper and dowels.  I just ran the paper through the copier to get the WORDS and IMAGE on to it.  Then I ADDED the dowels to the top and the bottom.  (Remember, I do NOT believe crafts should take up a LOT of class time so, I do much of the preparation before class time.)

During class time the KIDDOS will COLOR the Scroll, Distress the paper (CRUMPLE IT UP) to make it look OLD and then roll it up like a Scroll.  Simple to make and yet very effective…I know they will LOVE having their very own SCROLL.  Simple things IMPRESS the KIDDOS!!!!

Our Memory Verse come from the book of PROVERBS!!!  I LOVE the fact that this verse teaches WHERE WISDOM comes from….It will allow me to REINFORCE the lesson we had on Solomon’s Wisdom…and how we can have WISDOM too!!!  (We will sing this Memory Verse to a rough version of The Turkey In The Straw.)

Our REVIEW Game this week will be FUN.  We will gather on the carpet for this game….EACH of the KIDDOS will have a “YES” and “NO” paddle.  I will pull out cards and read them to the KIDDOS….If it is a BIBLICAL Proverb the KIDDOS will hold up their “YES” Paddle….If it is not a BIBLICAL Proverb the KIDDOS will hold up their “NO” Paddle.   

I have made up some pretty SILLY NON-BIBLICAL Proverbs… For example:   “Sandwiches are best eaten SOGGY.”   I figured we could have a few LAUGHS while playing this game.  🙂 

Next week we will REVIEW this LESSON and do our EXPLORER JOURNAL ACTIVITY.  For this Activity the KIDDOS will add SCROLLS of PROVERBS to their Activity Page….I feel like this one is best explained by the pics.  I did want the scrolls to be a bit 3D so the KIDDOS will attach them to the 3D double stick foam stickers…I have the stickers on the page already…that way the KIDDOS can spend their time coloring and then just PEEL and STICK their SCROLL on….I did use BRIGHT CARD STOCK for this activity….JUST FOR FUN!  The KIDDOS love it when I use COLORED Card stock…It is just those little touches that excite them.  🙂

Once the KIDDOS complete this activity we will tuck it safely into the EXPLORER JOURNAL.  Since we are quickly approaching the end of a quarter the KIDDOS will be taking home their EXPLORER JOURNALS soon.  They are getting excited about SHARING their EXPLORER JOURNALS with their family.

    April, I teach early childhood ages…My youngest student is 4 and my oldest is 7. We are a PRE-K-1st Grade class.

    My question for Ronda is with all your supplies and items to use as object lessons, what kind of a filing system do you have. It seems that I am constantly looking for something that I know I have but never seem to be able to put my hands on when I need to use it.

    My filing system is truly based on Bible Stories….Creation items are in a "CREATION" Box, Noah items in a "NOAH" Box, ETC. I do have my boxes COLOR COORDINATED. For example all my tubs for Creation-Joseph Goes Down to Egypt are BLUE! All my Moses/Exodus are in GREEN tubs. My Judges/Kings stuff goes in RED tubs, etc. I am extremely VISUAL so this HELPS me keep track. And when I GO to my VISUAL AID storage closet I know what COLOR box I am looking for and that helps me narrow my search down to a few tubs! NOW, that is the same way I set up my filing cabinet…So, my files "match" my BOXES! I REALLY try to stay organized….my biggest PROBLEM is when I "LOAN" out something….I am really BAD about forgetting who I loaned something to. I guess I need a "CHECK OUT" system. 🙂

    I have found the COLOR CODED TUBS have REALLY helped me…I have bought most of my COLORFUL tubs at Office Depot and Mardels. I like the size—NOT to big and not to small.

    Thanks, that really helps and would truly make things more simple. Now a question on a different matter. Do you create your own lessons or do you just modify a current publisher? I guess I am wondering how you decide which stories/events you want to teach. We are currently having trouble finding a publisher that meets the needs of our small classes — I don't want to teach creation in the primary age and then have the junior class teach it the next year so that the children aren't getting a well rounded approach to the Bible and Biblical truths.

    I am currently "creating" my own material….It is a PROCESS, but seems to be working for me. When I began teaching the Early Childhood age group I could not find a curriculum that I was thrilled with…so, I decided to "write" my own. I wanted to cover more than just Creation, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Daniel, and Jonah…. I wanted to have lessons on those Bible Stories…but, I wanted to have lessons on MORE than just those lessons…So, I dug in and began writing….I am not done. I have learned so much do it this way. It has not always been easy….Coming up with ideas for lessons that are not normally taught to this age group has caused me to want to "scratch my head" from time to time….and there are times I feel that my "Creative Well" has run dry. My prayer is to one day have this material published…. Hope this answers your question. (Sorry for the delay…We had a Gospel Meeting, then went on vacation, then all the cleanup and errands after getting home from vacation, etc.)

    Would you be willing to share what you are covering in your lessons — perhaps your Scope and Seqence? I agree, the children need to know more of the Bible than what most materials are currently teaching.

    I hope this answers some of the questions you have….

    I always share the WHO? the WHAT? the WHEN? WHERE? WHY? and HOW this is important to us? I feel the children can answer those questions then the will understand the importance behind the lessons.

    I start the class with Attendance time: We sing a WELCOME song and an ATTENDANCE song.
    The next approx. 7 minutes I spend time on Bible Facts.(Books of the Bible, Old Testament/New Testament number of books in each Testament, etc,)
    The next 10 mins we spend on the "TELLING of the LESSON." This is when I actually get into the lesson….I use visuals, puppets, flannels, voices, etc…to get the LESSON across. (I always build upon the lesson we had the week before…) I point out the places on the MAP that are in the lesson. We sing a song that goes with the lesson.
    Next we do our TAKE HOME or Explorer Journal activity…This normally does not take more that 7 minutes to complete. (The entire time they are working on their activity I am reviewing the lesson…asking questions and correcting any misunderstood parts of the lesson.)
    After that we do our MEMORY Verse…I assign their Memory Verse…We sing the song that goes with our MEMORY VERSE…We talk about the true meaning behind the Memory Verse…We explain any words that are hard to understand…and they color their Card.
    Then we move to the CARPET. At the CARPET we play our REVIEW GAMES. Sometimes, we are UP and MOVING during a GAME…SOMETIMES the KIDDOS SIT on their CARPET SQUARE while we TAKE TURNS playing the Game. Depends on the Review Game. Normally the bell rings during this time…So, we end our game, we gather our belongings and the KIDDOS meet me at the door. If it takes longer than normal for the parents to arrive we use this as a little more "REVIEW" time.
    I always have a KEY QUESTION the KIDDOS have to answer in order for me to OPEN the DOOR and let them go to their parents…. The question is always based on the lesson of the day.
